Classifying Loops can be tricky.

In the figure above, the ridge enters at A and exits at the same place, at B. This is clearly a loop. 

But, in the image below, if a ridge enters on one side of an impression, recurves, and then passes an imaginary line drawn from the delta to the core, even if it doesn’t terminate on the side from which it entered, as long as it has a tendency to do so, it will be classified as a loop.

But in other cases, where the recurving ridge doesn’t pass the imaginary line, it isn’t classified as a loop. But it may be classified as a tented arch because it lacks one of the criteria for classifying it as a loop. This is why it’s necessary to be careful when pinpointing the proper location of a delta and core.
