Mobile Fingerprinting Anywhere in Los Angeles

Mobile fingerprinting means we come to you. You pick the place — your office, your home, a hotel room, a conference room, a job site, a parking lot, a terminal at LAX — and we arrive with the equipment, take the prints, and submit them. There is something most people do not realize about this service. Two very different things are sold under the same words. Almost anyone can carry an ink pad and a stack of fingerprint cards to your door. Very few carry certified Live Scan equipment that captures prints digitally and transmits them electronically to the California Department of Justice from wherever you happen to be standing. We do both, and that is the whole point of this page.

What We Can Actually Do at Your Location

Everything we do in the office, we do on site:
  • California Live Scan — electronic capture and electronic submission to the California DOJ, and on to the FBI where your applicant type requires it.
  • FBI electronic submission — for federal background checks and Identity History Summary requests, with no ink involved.
  • Ink fingerprint cards — FD-258 and agency-specific cards, rolled by hand, for the many agencies that still require a physical card.
Anywhere, any time, any place in Los Angeles. Same technician, same equipment, same day when the calendar allows.

Live Scan or Ink Cards: Which One Travels

This is the question that decides your appointment, and it has nothing to do with mobility. It has to do with where your fingerprints are going. California Live Scan is a closed system. Electronic submissions go to the California Department of Justice and, from there, to the FBI when your applicant type calls for it. They do not go to Nevada, Arizona, Texas, Illinois or New York. There is no wire running between one state’s justice department and another’s. So if you are applying for a license issued outside California — a Nevada gaming license, an Arizona nursing license, a Texas real estate license, admission to another state’s bar — Live Scan cannot carry your prints there, no matter where in Los Angeles we take them. For those you need ink fingerprint cards, or an FBI electronic submission where the receiving board accepts one. Some boards accept either. Many now accept an FBI result from an approved channeler. Some still insist on a physical card. Tell us the agency and the form, and we will tell you which instrument you need before we quote you. Getting this wrong is the most expensive mistake in fingerprinting, because you do not find out until the rejection arrives weeks later. What a Mobile Appointment Needs From You

Less than most people expect.
  • No Wi-Fi. Our equipment does not use your network. This is the question we are asked most often, and the answer never changes.
  • No power outlet. We bring everything, including our own power.
  • A table and two chairs, or any flat surface of roughly that size. A reception desk works fine.
  • Your government-issued photo ID — driver’s license, passport or state ID. This is the one thing we cannot work around.
  • Your Request for Live Scan Service form (BCIA 8016) if your agency gave you one, with the ORI code and applicant type filled in. If you are not sure which form applies, call before the appointment and we will sort it out with you.
One practical note. We are required to keep one physical copy of your completed form, so bring at least one. Bring two if you want a copy for yourself, three if your agency wants paper as well. If there is no copier where we are meeting, bring what you need or be ready to accept a digital copy. We fill in the lower portion with the transaction information, and you need a copy for whoever asked you to get fingerprinted.

Groups, Workforces and Corporate On-Site Fingerprinting

This is where mobile stops being a convenience and becomes the only sensible option. Getting one person to a fingerprinting office is easy. Getting forty people to one is a scheduling problem that lands on somebody’s desk in HR and stays there for two weeks. People take time off. People go to the wrong location. People arrive without ID. Three of them cancel and the whole session gets rescheduled. The cost of the fingerprinting is trivial next to the cost of coordinating it. Mobile removes the coordination. We come to where your people already are, on a day they are already there, and work through them one at a time while everybody else keeps working. What that has looked like in practice:
  • A rideshare operator headquartered outside California needed thousands of Los Angeles drivers fingerprinted for a licensing requirement in its home state. Because the receiving agency was not in California, Live Scan could not carry it, so we rolled ink cards on location, in volume.
  • A physician needed thirty ink cards completed at a hospital, between shifts.
  • Performers and crew fingerprinted near the airport, in the window between landing and being needed somewhere else.
  • Gaming and casino license applicants — executives based in Los Angeles, or passing through it for a couple of hours — printed for Nevada boards and tribal gaming commissions, which again means cards rather than California Live Scan.
  • Camp counselors and volunteer groups fingerprinted on site under AB 506, which requires background checks for youth organizations and their volunteers.

What we need from you for a group booking is simple: somewhere to set up, a headcount, and every person reminded to bring photo ID. That last one saves the day more often than anything else on this page.

Healthcare, education, real estate, legal, hospitality and the licensed trades all carry compliance obligations that arrive with deadlines and rarely arrive at convenient times. Nonprofits with volunteer rosters carry the AB 506 obligation. Restaurants and bars applying for an ABC license, attorneys arranging prints for their own clients, adoption and immigration applicants needing an FBI background check — all of them share the same underlying problem. The requirement is not the hard part. The logistics are.

What Mobile Fingerprinting Costs

Two numbers, kept separate so you can see what you are paying for.

Our rolling fee is $30 per person. That is the same fee you would pay walking into our office. Mobile does not inflate it. For groups of over ten it drops to $25 per person.

Government fees are separate and are not ours. The California DOJ and the FBI charge their own processing fees, and your agency may add a CORI fee on top. These are set by the agencies, they vary by applicant type, and they pass straight through to you. Current detail is on our Live Scan prices page.

The travel fee depends on where you are and how quickly you need us. A mid-morning appointment in Century City and a same-day run to the far edge of the county are not the same job. For large groups — thirty, forty, fifty people — we will often discount the travel fee or waive it altogether. We quote it on the phone before you commit anything, so you can decide whether it makes more sense to come to us instead.

No, and it is the most common misunderstanding we deal with. The $30 rolling fee is the same whether you come to our office or we come to you. Travel is a separate fee — the same way a plumber charges to come to your house rather than you carrying the sink to the shop.

It starts at around $125 for somewhere nearby and rises with distance and how quickly you need us. We quote it on the phone before you commit to anything. If it does not make sense for you, come to the office instead — mobile is a convenience, not a requirement, and plenty of people decide the drive is worth it. For larger groups of thirty or more we will often discount it or waive it altogether.

We are closed on Saturdays. Sunday appointments are sometimes available, but for mobile work only — we do not open the office on Sundays — and they carry a premium.
