Key Facts
- A white space is required between the delta and the first ridge count; otherwise, the first ridge is ignored.
- A recurve must not have any appendage at a right angle between the shoulders; otherwise, it is deemed spoiled.
- If an appendage abuts a recurve, one should examine the next loop outside for the core.
- Interlocking loops are treated as a single loop in fingerprint analysis.

White spaces
A white space must intervene between the delta and the first ridge count. If no such interval exists, the first ridge must be disregarded.
Recurves
A recurve must have no appendage abutting upon it at a right Angle between the shoulders and on the outside. If an appendage abuts it, it is considered spoiled and one must look to the next loop outside to locate the core.
Interlocking loops
Sometimes loops interlock. These are considered as one loop.
